Rohit Sharma, the former skipper of the Indian team, attended the 27th CEAT Cricket Rating Awards in Mumbai last week. The 38-year-old garnered a lot of attention from fans thanks to his changed physical appearance, looking fitter and leaner than before. Apart from his physical transformation, Rohit also received plaudits for his considerate gesture at the ceremony, which has gone viral on social media.
Rohit seemed to be enjoying himself with Ritika Sajdeh for company throughout the evening. They were sitting next to ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, who had previously gone on stage to accept the CEAT JioStar Award, but instead of holding it or placing it on a table, he returned to his seat and put the memento on the floor next to him.
Soon after, Rohit saw the trophy placed near Iyer's feet. In a decision that has received massive praise on social media, the opening batter discreetly picked it up and placed it on a neighbouring table.
Rohit is all set to make his return to international cricket during the three-match ODI series against Australia, starting on October 19. The Nagpur-born's last appearance for India was in the 2025 Champions Trophy final against New Zealand.
"I love playing against them. I love going to Australia. It's a very challenging country to play cricket. People there love the game as well," Rohit said on the sidelines of the event.
"Australia is a different challenge every time they have played against us. Having been there now several times, I do understand what to expect. Hopefully we can go there and do what the Indian team is supposed to do and get the result in our favour," he added.
Bangar feels Rohit is 'determined' to prove himself again
This is going to be an important assignment for Rohit, especially after being removed as India's ODI captain earlier this month. He will be under pressure, as the talented Yashasvi Jaiswal has been picked in the squad as the reserve opener. Rohit will open the batting with newly-appointed skipper Shubman Gill.
