Before the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 final between India and Pakistan, the Men in Blue took on Sri Lanka in their final Super 4 fixture. The contest turned out to be a high-octane encounter that went down to the wire, eventually being decided in a dramatic Super Over. Among the many standout moments, Sanju Samson‘s quicksilver stumping of Kusal Perera stole the spotlight, underlining his world-class wicketkeeping skills.
It was the second ball of the 13th over when Varun Chakaravarthy bowled a clever delivery wide outside off stump to deceive the in-form Kusal Perera. Perera, who was striking the ball cleanly and putting Indian bowlers under severe pressure, charged down the track in an attempt to clear the infield. However, he failed to make contact as the ball spun away. Samson, ever-alert, collected the ball in a flash and whipped off the bails in one smooth motion.
Perera, who had been looking unstoppable until then, was caught short of the crease, leaving Sri Lanka stunned. The dismissal ended a dangerous partnership and gave India a much-needed breakthrough at a crucial juncture. Fans erupted on social media, praising Samson’s agility and presence of mind.

Sri Lanka, in their chase, were at stable position with Pathum Nissanka and Perera putting together a 127-run stand that kept them well ahead of the required rate. While Nissanka battled cramps but still struck cleanly en route to his maiden T20I century, Perera’s dismissal to Samson’s lightning stumping turned the game on its head. The middle order, including Charisth Asalanka and Kamindu Mendis, struggled to find momentum, and India’s spinners applied the brakes effectively. Nissanka reached his hundred but fell on the first ball of the final over, leaving Sri Lanka needing three runs off the last delivery. They managed only two, tying the scores and sending the match into a Super Over. Arshdeep Singh was entrusted with bowling duties for India, and he rose to the occasion magnificently. The left-arm pacer delivered pinpoint yorkers, conceding only two runs. In response, India wasted no time as they knocked off the target in just one delivery, sealing yet another victory and maintaining their unbeaten run in the tournament.
India’s victory not only secured their dominance in the Super 4 stage but also boosted their confidence ahead of the blockbuster final against arch-rivals Pakistan. However, concerns remain over the fitness of Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, both of whom were forced to leave the field due to cramps. Rinku Singh and Jitesh Sharma came in as substitutes and played vital roles in the Super Over.
