In the age of social media, memes have become a staple of modern cricket fandom. From hilarious wardrobe comparisons to light-hearted takes on players’ on-field expressions, nothing escapes the sharp eyes of fans. And more often than not, even cricket legends join in on the fun — just like Sunil Gavaskar did during a recent broadcast of IPL 2025.
During a live segment of the ongoing cash-rich league, Gavaskar — known for his sharp cricketing insights and occasionally cheeky sense of humour — cracked a hilarious joke that caught everyone off guard. Speaking to studio host Mayanti Langer and fellow broadcaster Robin Uthappa, Gavaskar dropped a zinger that instantly lit up the studio.
Referring to a viral meme that recently compared his and Mayanti’s similar on-air outfits, Gavaskar turned the tables this time. With Uthappa wearing an outfit eerily similar to Mayanti’s, Gavaskar quipped from the field, “I just want to ask Robin, why is he wearing Mayanti’s trousers?”
The spontaneous comment left both Mayanti and Robin in fits of laughter. Gavaskar didn’t stop there — he cheekily added, “I’m supposed to be wearing the trousers,” poking fun at the meme in true comedic fashion. The light-hearted moment instantly went viral, with fans praising Gavaskar for embracing the humour and meme culture that surrounds modern cricket broadcasts.
