The Indian cricket team has begun its preparations for the five-match T20I series against England, with the opening game set to be played on Wednesday. After a disappointing tour of Ireland, where the reigning T20 World Cup champions suffered an unexpected whitewash, Shreyas Iyer’s side will be eager to bounce back against a formidable English outfit. While several senior players looked sharp during training, it was once again teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi who grabbed the spotlight with a breathtaking display in the nets.
Despite not making his international debut during the recently concluded Ireland series, Suryavanshi has continued to make a strong impression behind the scenes. The 15-year-old left-hander looked in sublime touch during India’s practice session ahead of the first T20I against England, confidently taking on the bowlers with a wide range of attacking strokes.
Suryavanshi repeatedly stepped out of his crease to loft deliveries over the infield, executed powerful pull shots with authority and mixed them with elegant drives along the ground. One of the standout moments of the session came when he drilled a sublime straight drive off his Rajasthan Royals (RR) teammate Ravi Bishnoi, forcing the leg-spinner to jump out of the ball’s path.
The youngster’s fluent strokeplay has further strengthened his case for a maiden India cap. If handed his debut during the England series, Suryavanshi will become the youngest player ever to represent India in international cricket.

Although the excitement surrounding Suryavanshi continues to grow, the Indian team management has indicated that the teenager will have to earn his opportunity like every other player in the squad. The opening combination already features players who have been integral to India’s T20 World Cup-winning setup, making competition for places extremely intense.
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate recently explained that while Suryavanshi possesses exceptional talent, his development will be managed carefully without rushing him into the playing XI. The management remains keen to give the youngster the right opportunities while ensuring continuity within the squad.
Nevertheless, his latest batting exhibition has only increased the anticipation among fans, who are eager to witness one of India’s brightest young talents make his long-awaited international debut during the England series.
