A thrilling contest between India A and Sri Lanka A in the ongoing tri-series at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium ended dramatically on Monday. What appeared to be a routine conclusion to a closely fought encounter quickly turned into a tense affair as the match witnessed multiple controversial moments, lengthy discussions with the umpires and heated exchanges after the final result.
The contest ended in a tie after both sides finished on 265 runs, forcing a Super Over to determine the winner. However, the drama was not restricted to the cricketing action alone, with several incidents unfolding before and after the tie-breaker that left players visibly frustrated.
The most talked-about moment came after Sri Lanka A secured victory in the Super Over. India A youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was padded up and ready to bat during the decisive tie-breaker, appeared visibly disappointed following the result.
As the Sri Lankan players celebrated their victory, an exchange took place involving Suryavanshi and members of the opposition side. Television footage showed a brief confrontation between the 15-year-old and a Sri Lankan player before other players stepped in to separate the two sides.
The situation escalated momentarily as players exchanged words near the boundary line. Suryavanshi was later seen gesturing towards the Sri Lankan players while walking back towards the dressing room, with emotions clearly running high after the dramatic defeat.

The incident quickly gained traction on social media, with fans reacting to the young batter’s fiery competitive spirit. Despite being one of the youngest players on the field, Suryavanshi did not shy away from standing his ground during the confrontation.

The tension had been building long before the post-match altercation. Following the tied match, uncertainty surrounded whether a Super Over could be conducted due to fading light conditions. India A captain Tilak Varma was involved in lengthy discussions with the on-field umpires as officials debated whether the tie-breaker should proceed. Several Indian players and support staff members also joined the conversations before the decision was eventually made to continue with the Super Over.
Further controversy emerged during Sri Lanka A’s Super Over innings. Arshad Khan’s final delivery, initially thought to have ended the over, was later called a no-ball for height. The decision sparked another animated discussion involving Tilak and the match officials, delaying proceedings further.
Earlier in the match, India A recovered brilliantly from a difficult position thanks to a remarkable 104-run partnership between Suyansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam for the eighth wicket. Their efforts helped India A post 265 before being bowled out in 49.2 overs.
Sri Lanka A responded strongly in the chase, with Sadeera Samarawickrama leading the way with a superb 93. The hosts eventually matched India’s total on the final ball of the innings to force a Super Over. Sri Lanka A then scored 16 runs in the tie-breaker before restricting India A to just nine, sealing a dramatic victory and moving to the top of the points table. The defeat marked India A’s second loss of the competition after their earlier setback against Afghanistan A.
