India Champions (IAC) cross swords with South Africa Champions (SAC) in match No. 6 of the ongoing World Championship of Legends 2025 at County Ground, Nottingham, on Tuesday, July 22.
Defending champions India have not been on the park as yet. Their first game against Pakistan Champions ended without a result as both teams shared points. This was after some Indian players decided to boycott the encounter due to the political tension between the two countries. India Champions have a very strong side, with Yuvraj Singh at the helm.
On the other hand, South Africa Champions started their campaign with a thrilling win in a bowl-out against the West Indies Champions. In a rain-curtailed clash, South Africa were cruising as they had to chase down an 80-run target in 11 overs. However, they needed two runs off the last three balls, and Fidel Edwards got two wickets to take the match into a bowl-out. However, the AB de Villiers-led side emerged victorious in the end.
The County Ground in Northampton is expected to favour the new-ball bowlers inside the powerplay. Opening batters will have to be wary. Batting will get easier once the ball gets old. Spinners might not get much assistance from the surface.
Robin Uthappa (WK), Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu/Stuart Binny, Yuvraj Singh (C), Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Piyush Chawla, Abhimanyu Mithun/Varun Aaron, Harbhajan Singh, Vinay Kumar.
Richard Levi, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers (C), Sarel Erwee, JP Duminy, JJ Smuts, Morne van Wyk (WK), Wayne Parnell, Chris Morris, Hardus Viljoen, Aaron Phangiso.
Shikhar Dhawan has played four T20Is in England, and he averages 13. However, he was very successful as an ODI batter in the European nation. In 22 ODIs, he averages a staggering 60.10 and has a strike rate of 97.60, including four fifties and as many centuries. Dhawan will be key for India as he can switch his game seamlessly from dropping anchor to taking the attack to the bowlers.
The 36-year-old South African speedster, Hardus Viljoen, will look to give South Africa early breakthroughs with the new ball. He looked in great rhythm in the game against the West Indies, finishing with figures of 1/6 in two overs. If Viljoen can get wickets with the new ball, it will bode well for the bowlers to follow.
