WCPL 2025: Hayley Matthews ruled out of tournament with shoulder injury

Hayley Matthews has been ruled out of the Women's Caribbean Premier League 2025 due to a shoulder injury. No replacement has been declared by Barbados Royals Women so far. Chinelle Henry will lead the side.
Matthews has been instrumental for the Royals in the WCPL and is the tournament's leading run-getter with 424 runs at a strike rate of 113.06. She also leads the WCPL bowling charts with 23 wickets in 13 matches at an economy rate of 5.79.
Speaking of Matthews' injury, she picked it up during West Indies women's tour of England. She skipped the Women's Big Bash League due to her surgery. Matthews was Melbourne Renegades Women's pre-draft pick but opted out of WBBL draft. Later, she played the home series against South Africa and The Hundred Women's.
Meanwhule, Barbados Royals' Naijanni Cumberbatch, Trishan Holder and Steffie Soogrim were amongst a handful of players from the emerging West Indies squad who are coming into the WCPL 2025 with a short tenure at the Chennai Super Kings Academy in Chennai in August.
Shreyanka Patil is also in Royals' squad and is one amongst the three Indians at the WCPL this year. The other two Indians at the tournament, Shikha Pandey and Salonee Dangore will represent Trinbago Knight Riders. WCPL 2025 will be played between September 6 to 17.
The Royals have won the competition twice (2023 and 2024) and have emerged as runners-up once (2022). They will commence their campaign against Guyana Amazon Warriors Women on Monday, September 8.
