'We have our B ground' - Parthiv Patel reveals how Gujarat Titans simulate real-match scenarios to find success

Gujarat Titans (GT) assistant coach Parthiv Patel has reflected on how the dressing room is thinking about their business in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, as the franchise is aiming to lift their second title of the tournament. Parthiv has said that the players have been put in real-match situations during practice sessions to prepare themselves better ahead of crucial encounters on match days.
After GT registered a mammoth 77-run win against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, Parthiv has said that practice ahead of the match day is the key to their success in the tournament this season. Apart from toiling hard with physical activity, there has been a lot of oral communication as well, especially within the think tank, which has complemented the franchise to gain likeable results.
"Most of the conversations with the batters are about scenarios where the opposition bowlers could potentially target them and the kind of fields they could set for a particular batter. Whether it is Sai Sudharsan, Washington Sundar or Rahul Tewatia, the discussions are always about understanding their stronger areas, where they could be bowled to, and how you could get the desired result," he told JioHotstar.
While the Narendra Modi Stadium continues to be the home turf for the Ahmedabad-based franchise, Parthiv has said that the team trains a lot at the B ground, which is adjacent to the venue. Playing mock and intra-squad games helps them be fully prepared when similar situations occur during live encounters.
"We practise a lot, especially with the middle order, because they don't always get enough time in matches. We have our B ground, where we try to prepare them as much as possible by putting them in match scenarios," the former wicketkeeper-batter added.
There has been a considerable amount of dominance shown by GT in IPL 2026. After registering their seventh win of the season against Rajasthan, the Shubman Gill-led side has climbed up to the second position on the points table, inching further towards confirming their seat for the playoffs. Their remaining group-stage games are against Sunrisers Hyderabad (May 12), Kolkata Knight Riders (May 16) and Chennai Super Kings (May 21).
