We have three match-fit pacers who can bowl at 92 miles an hour' - Marcus Trescothick lauds fast bowlers after Pakistan series win

England defeated Pakistan by 194 runs at Lord's on August 30, 2026, securing an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The victory followed England's innings-and-103-run win at Headingley in the opening fixture, giving the team their first multi-match series win since December 2024, when they beat New Zealand 2-1. The third and final match of the series is scheduled to begin on September 9 in Birmingham.

Marcus Trescothick, England's interim coach, highlighted the strength of the pace attack following the Lord's triumph. Ollie Robinson was named Player of the Match after finishing with eight wickets in the game, taking 4/11 in Pakistan's first innings and 4/24 in the second. Robinson has picked up 16 wickets at 7.18 in this series alone. Trescothick also lauded the contribution of Jofra Archer, Josh Tongue, and Gus Atkinson, saying that it is great to have three pacers who can bowl at 92 miles an hour.

"I think we've got a good contrast in what we're trying to do at the moment. What we do have is three guys bowling at 92 miles an hour, which is really nice to have in your armoury, and to have the potency in what you're trying to do. The more that they play together and the more experience that everyone gets together, then it sort of fits into place," Trescothick was quoted as saying by Cricinfo.

The pace attack has delivered consistent performances throughout the series. Jofra Archer claimed eight wickets at 21.87, while Josh Tongue took 13 wickets at 12.46 and contributed 3/46 in Pakistan's second innings at Lord's. Atkinson has also bowled with a lot of steam but has been unlucky not to pick up more than one wicket across two games.

Trescothick drew parallels between the current attack and England's 2005 Ashes-winning vintage, which featured Steven Harmison, Andrew Flintoff, Simon Jones and Matthew Hoggard.

"I don't want to get too far ahead on it because there's a lot of cricket to be played beforehand. But I think we're building an attack in four people that we've had here in this game, and a few guys backing it up, with pace and skill around it. And I think combining the two together and the more Test matches they all gain together, the better opportunity we've got when you go to more challenging conditions, and away from home in particular," Trescothick added.

The former England opener is looking to have the same bowling attack in the upcoming Test match in Birmingham.

The victory marked England's first Test series win in Joe Root's second term as skipper. The squad was scheduled to gather in Birmingham on September 6 ahead of the final Test at Edgbaston, with Trescothick seeking a 100 per cent record and an unchanged lineup for the match.
