West indies legend elected as new President of Lancashire Cricket

Former West Indies captain Sir Clive Lloyd has been elected as the President of the Lancashire Cricket Club at their Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Old Trafford on Monday, May 25.

Despite being one of the biggest names in West Indies cricket, Lloyd is widely regarded as one of the greatest overseas players to represent Lancashire in English county cricket. The double World Cup-winning West Indies captain went on to represent the Red Rose County for 18 seasons, where he scored 12,764 runs in 219 matches, including 30 First-Class centuries.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first honour Lloyd has received from the Lancashire Cricket Club. Last summer, during England’s Test series against India, the club named a stand after him and former India wicketkeeper Farokh Engineer.

Newly elected Chair, Dame Sarah Storey, welcomed Lloyd as the club’s President and hopes that his expertise in cricket will take the club forward to new heights.

"I am delighted to officially welcome Sir Clive as President - what an honour for the Club to have such an incredible individual on our Board. We also welcome Mike, Paul, Carolyn and Richard, who all bring outstanding experience and expertise, and we look forward to working with them. It is an incredible privilege to be named Chair of this great Club. I am steadfast in my commitment to ensure that our Lancashire teams are as strong as they possibly can be on the field and growing the game of cricket across Lancashire and the North West. This is what everyone at the Club is striving towards. The expertise of Sir Clive Lloyd and Mike Watkinson joining our Board will only support that aim,” Dame Sarah Storey said on Lancashire’s official website.

England star Jos Buttler signs new contract with Lancashire

Along with Lloyd, former England Women’s star and 2017 World Cup-winning bowler, Alex Hartley, also joined the board after being appointed as the Vice-President of Lancashire Cricket. The 32-year-old retired from professional cricket in 2023 after last representing the Welsh Fire in The Hundred.
