West Indies (WI) and Nepal (NEP) are set to lock horns in the first T20I of their three-match series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday, September 27. This will be Nepal’s first-ever bilateral series against a Full Member nation.
West Indies will be led by left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein in the absence of regular skipper Shai Hope. Their squad features five uncapped players, including Ackeem Auguste and Amir Jangoo, alongside experienced names like Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, and Kyle Mayers. Meanwhile, the Caribbean team in their last T20I series suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of Pakistan.
On the other hand, Nepal has recalled all-rounder Mohammad Aadil Alam and batter Sundeep Jora for the series. Rohit Paudel will lead the team, with Dipendra Singh Airee as his deputy. The attention will once again be on legspinner Sandeep Lamichhane, while left-arm spinner Lalit Rajbanshi also returns to the squad. Nepal will be coming after winning three of their last four T20 matches.
The pitch at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium has traditionally favoured batters, with conditions generally improving as the game progresses. The smaller boundary dimensions mean that batters can clear the rope with relatively fewer efforts and timing. However, the surface has often shown signs of being double-sided support, which could bring spinners into play during the middle overs and make scoring a challenge.
This is the first time West Indies and Nepal will lock horns in a T20I format.
Jewel Andrew (wk), Kyle Mayers, Keacy Carty, Amir Jangoo, Ackeem Auguste, Jason Holder, Fabian Allen, Akeal Hosein (c), Shamar Springer, Obed McCoy, Jediah Blades
Kushal Bhurtel, Aasif Sheikh (wk), Rohit Paudel (c), Aarif Sheikh, Dipendra Singh Airee, Lokesh Bam, Kushal Malla, Gulsan Jha, Sompal Kami, Sandeep Lamichhane, Lalit Rajbanshi
Nepal's Kushal Bhurtel could be the best batter in the upcoming game against the West Indies. The opener in the Scotland T20I Tri-Series was the highest run-scorer for his team. In four games, he scored 133 runs at an average of 33.25. Bhurtel will be looking to play the same brand of cricket in the coming series.
West Indies' Jason Holder could be the best bowler in the upcoming clash against Nepal. The veteran all-rounder will be looking to make good use of his pace and height. The right-arm seamer is coming off good performances in the Pakistan series with six wickets in three games and will look to continue the same form.
