West Indies vs Sri Lanka, 3rd ODI – Who will win today’s match between WI vs SL?
West Indies will face Sri Lanka in the third ODI of the three-match series on June 9 at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. Sri Lanka currently holds a 1-0 lead after a 41-run win in the first game, before the second game on June 7 was washed out.
The West Indies will be looking to finish the series on a high. Multiple batters were able to get runs in the first ODI, but no one was able to manage a big score to command the chase of 303. Skipper Shai Hope scored a well-made 56 but was unable to carry forward his momentum into a big score.
Sri Lanka will be looking to finish the series with a win, claiming the trophy. They put on a well-rounded display with bat and ball, scoring 303 and defending it with relative comfort. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis were able to get significant runs, while Dushmantha Chameera was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets.
The pitch at Sabina Park in Jamaica was historically known to favour faster bowlers with good bounce and carry. But over the years, the wicket has become slower, favouring spinners. The wicket in the first ODI had one half of dry brown grass, with the other covered in green grass. It has enough for the bowlers, both seamers and pacers, but batters were able to score freely on the wicket.
Justin Greaves, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Shai Hope (c) (wk), Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Gudakesh Motie, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales
Pathum Nissanka, Kamindu Mendis, Kusal Mendis (c) (wk), Pavan Rathnayake, Charith Asalanka, Janith Liyanage, Wanindu Hasaranga, Milan Priyanath Rathnayake, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Asitha Fernando
West Indies skipper Shai Hope is coming into this clash with a significant need for big runs. Once touted as a generational talent, Hope has been unable to fulfil that potential but has in the last few years re-established himself as one of the Windies' main batters. He scored a well-made 56 in the first game but would be on the lookout for a big score in the final game.
Seamer Dushmantha Chammera was the best performer with the ball in the first ODI, finishing with figures of 4 for 67. He bowls at a good pace, can generate movement and bounce off the surface and has established himself as one of the leaders of the Sri Lanka bowling unit.
