The first T20I between the West Indies Women (WI W) and Sri Lanka Women (SL W) is set to be played at the National Cricket Stadium in St. George's, Grenada, on Saturday, February 28.
After losing the three-match ODI series 1-2, the West Indies will look to bounce back strongly in the shortest format. Hayley Matthews and Co. won the third ODI, which would have boosted their morale somewhat.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka showed better resolve in crunch situations to win the closely-contested first two ODIs. Talismanic skipper Chamari Athapaththua didn't have a great series with the bat, but Sri Lanka still managed to emerge victorious, and this should give the youngsters in the squad a lot of confidence.
From the first three ODIs, it is clear that spinners will play a key role for both sides. Batters will have to give themselves time in the middle before going for the big shots. The openers would want to make the most of the field restrictions and score quick runs inside the power play.
Hayley Matthews (C), Qiana Joseph, Chinelle Henry, Deandra Dottin, Shemane Campbelle (WK), Jannillea Glasgow, Aaliyah Alleyne, Jahzara Claxton, Afy Fletcher, Karishma Ramharack, Stafanie Taylor.
Chamari Athapaththu (C), Vishmi Gunaratne, Hasini Perera, Harshita Samarawickrama, Kavisha Dilhari, Nilakshi de Silva, Kaushini Nuthyanganha (WK), Dewmi Vihanga, Sugandika Kumari, Malki Madara, Inoka Ranaweera.
Hayley Matthews is going to be a key player once again for the West Indies. The talismanic captain would want to continue from where she left off in the third ODI, where she slammed a gritty century and helped her team avoid a whitewash.
Inoka Ranaweera finished the ODI series as the highest wicket-taker. The 40-year-old bagged eight wickets at an average of 15.88. In the T20Is, batters will have to go after her and this would give her a greater chance of picking up wickets.
