New Zealand middle-order batter Daryl Mitchell is currently enjoying a remarkable run of form in One-Day Internationals, consistently dominating opposition bowling attacks with his calm temperament and impeccable shot selection. He is known for his ability to absorb pressure, build innings and has been a pillar of New Zealand’s ODI batting line-up.
Mitchell has been sensational in the series, scoring two centuries and a half-century, making life extremely difficult for the Indian bowlers. His century in Rajkot proved to be a game-changing knock, guiding New Zealand to victory and helping them level the series at 1-1. In the decisive third ODI, Mitchell once again showcased his class by registering another century, forcing both Indian pacers and spinners to toil hard as they struggled to find a way past his solid defence and controlled aggression.
India has been one of Mitchell’s favourite opponents in the 50-over format. The right-hander boasts an outstanding record against the Men in Blue, averaging over 74.10 in ODI cricket. He has played 13 matches against India, featuring in 11 innings, and has accumulated 741 runs, which include four centuries and three half-centuries.
In the current ODI series alone, Mitchell has amassed an impressive 352 runs in three matches which showed his dominance. His first ODI century against India came during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in Dharamsala, where he scored 130 runs despite New Zealand ending up on the losing side. He followed it up with another century, 134 runs, in the same tournament’s semi-final, once again delivering a valiant effort in defeat. Mitchell also scored a crucial half-century (63 runs) in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, although New Zealand could not secure victory.
His most recent half-century in this series came in Vadodara, further adding to his impressive tally. Mitchell's 352 runs in this series are the third-most by any batter in a three-match ODI series. Overall, in ODI cricket, Daryl Mitchell has scored over 2,685 runs in 54 innings at an exceptional average of 59.66.
