England will play their first game R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo as part of their Super Eight campaign on February 27 against New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026.
The Harry Brook-led side has already secured a semi-final berth after an impressive run in the tournament. England played their first game of the T20 World Cup 2012 against Afghanistan, posting 196/5 after Luke Wright smashed an unbeaten 99 off 55 balls, including eight fours and six sixes. Izatullah Dawlatzai picked up 2/56 for Afghanistan. In reply, Afghanistan were bowled out for 80 in 17.2 overs, with Gulbadin Naib top-scoring with 44. Jade Dernbach, Stuart Broad, Samit Patel, and Graeme Swann claimed two wickets each as England secured a commanding 116-run victory.
In their second fixture of the same tournament, England suffered a 90-run defeat against India. India posted 170/4, powered by Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 55 off 33 balls, while Gautam Gambhir (45) and Virat Kohli (40) made valuable contributions. Steven Finn took 2/33 for England. Chasing 171, England were bowled out for 80, with Craig Kieswetter top-scoring with 35. Harbhajan Singh starred with 4/12, while Piyush Chawla and Irfan Pathan picked up two wickets each.
Their most recent outing came against Sri Lanka during the 2018 tour, where England registered a 30-run win. England posted 187/8, with Jason Roy scoring 69. Lasith Malinga and Amila Aponso took two wickets apiece for Sri Lanka. In response, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 157, with Thisara Perera top-scoring with 57. Joe Denly led England’s bowling effort with 4/19, while Adil Rashid took 3/11 and Chris Jordan finished with 2/29.
