What is Rohit Sharma's record at Lord's in ODIs?
Former India captain Rohit Sharma has been in the spotlight following speculation about his ODI future after reports claimed he could retire following the third ODI against England at Lord's. However, the rumours were quickly dismissed by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, who clarified that there have been no discussions regarding Rohit's retirement. He also reiterated that the veteran opener remains fully committed to India's plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
While the retirement chatter has faded, Rohit's recent form has become a talking point. The experienced opener has managed just 37 runs across the first two ODIs of the series, leading to criticism from fans and experts alike. As one of India's most accomplished white-ball batters, Rohit will be eager to silence his critics with a trademark innings at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground, popularly known as the Home of Cricket.
However, statistics suggest that Lord's has not been one of Rohit's happiest hunting grounds in the ODI format. Despite enjoying remarkable success at several venues around the world, the Indian star has struggled to make an impact at this historic ground.
Rohit has played only two ODIs at Lord's, both against England, and has scored a combined 15 runs at an average of 7.50.
His first appearance at the venue came during India's tour of England in 2018, where he was dismissed for 15 runs while chasing a modest target. Four years later, in the 2022 ODI against England at Lord's, Rohit endured another disappointing outing as he was dismissed for a duck, failing to trouble the scorers.
Although those numbers paint an underwhelming picture, Rohit's overall ODI record speaks for itself. With more than 11,000 runs, multiple double centuries, and a reputation for producing match-winning knocks in big games, he remains one of the finest ODI batters of his generation.
The third ODI at Lord's presents Rohit with an ideal opportunity to turn things around. A significant innings would not only help India gain the upper hand in the series but also put an end to questions surrounding his recent form. Given his experience and ability to rise to the occasion, fans will be hoping the Indian opener can finally overcome his struggles at Lord's and deliver a captain's knock on one of cricket's grandest stages.
