Ayush Mhatre is a promising young Indian cricketer who made his IPL debut for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 20, 2025, in a high-profile match against the Mumbai Indians (MI). Born on July 16, 2007, in Virar, Maharashtra, Mhatre is a right-handed opening batter and a right-arm off-break bowler.
Mhatre’s cricketing journey began with the Mumbai domestic team during the 2024–25 season. He quickly garnered attention by making his first-class debut in the Irani Cup at the age of 17. In the Ranji Trophy, he showcased his talent by scoring a remarkable 176 against Maharashtra, followed by another century against Services. His consistent performances established him as a key player for Mumbai.
In December 2024, during the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Mhatre etched his name in the record books by becoming the youngest player to score over 150 runs in men’s List A cricket. At 17 years and 168 days old, he surpassed Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s previous record by scoring an impressive 181 runs off 117 balls against Nagaland. His innings included 15 fours and 11 sixes, highlighting his aggressive yet composed batting style.

Mhatre’s domestic success caught the attention of IPL scouts, leading to his acquisition by CSK for the 2025 season. Making his debut against the Mumbai Indians, he joined a team known for nurturing young talent. Known for his aggressive batting and ability to anchor innings, Mhatre has drawn comparisons to established players like Jaiswal. His record-breaking performances at a young age suggest a bright future ahead. Notably, Mhatre impressed one and all in his maiden IPL game. He smashed 32 off just 15 deliveries, featuring 4 fours and 2 sixes.
