Woman files complaint against Bengal cricketer Abishek Porel over alleged marriage promise
A medical student from Karnataka has filed a complaint against Bengal cricketer Abishek Porel, alleging that he engaged in a sexual relationship with her under the promise of marriage. The complaint was lodged at Mogra Police Station in West Bengal's Hooghly district, prompting police to initiate an investigation into the matter.
According to a report by Anandabazar Patrika, the woman claimed that she and Porel had been in a relationship for nearly three years and had planned to get married. She alleged that complications arose around a year and a half ago, leading the matter to reach a police station at the time. However, no formal complaint was filed during that earlier episode.
The woman, accompanied by her mother, visited Mogra Police Station on June 23 and submitted a written complaint against the cricketer. Police have since begun examining the allegations and collecting relevant information as part of the investigation.

The report stated that Hooghly Superintendent of Police Kunar Bhushan Singh visited the police station after learning about the case. He reportedly held discussions with officer-in-charge Soumen Biswas and DSP Abhijit Singh Mohapatra regarding the next course of action.
Police sources told the newspaper that instructions had already been issued and that the allegations were being thoroughly investigated. The complaint reportedly includes accusations of sexual intercourse on the promise of marriage, assault, and intimidation.
Porel has denied the allegations, stating that he has not yet been contacted by the police. He added that he would provide a more detailed response once the initial stages of the investigation are completed.
The 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batter recently represented the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, scoring 108 runs in four matches, and remains a regular member of the Bengal cricket team.
“I am playing well now, so various things are coming up. I will talk about this when the police investigate. I have not spoken to the police yet," said Porel as quoted by News18.
