England Women managed an easy win against Ireland at the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 clash during Match 8 on Tuesday, June 16. Completing a clinical four-wicket victory with 15 balls to spare, as they chased down the 119-run target with utmost comfort at the Rose Bowl, Southampton.

The game had started with Ireland coming in to bat after England won the toss and opted to field first. The hosts dominated right from the start, allowing the Gaby Lewis-led side to compile only 38 runs in the powerplay, losing three wickets in the process. Orla Prendergast tried to steady the momentum from there and was complemented by Louise Little with a 15-ball 26 towards the end to take Ireland to 118-9 after 20.

England did not do exceptionally well in the powerplay either, managing only 35 for the loss of three wickets. But Nat Sciver-Brunt (48 off 37), their experienced skipper, managed to put in 48 on the board alongside Heather Knight (26 off 23). Prendergast shone with the ball as well, taking 2-17, but it wasn't enough, as England breached the finishing line in the eighteenth over.

Sciver-Brunt came into the middle in a dangerous situation, as England were in some sort of trouble having lost three in the powerplay. However, her steady knock ensured that there were no major hiccups later. However, she felt a calf strain, forcing her to retire herself out of the innings, falling just a couple of runs short of a half-century. Nonetheless, she did her job well to make sure her side did not falter.

Ecclestone, like she does so often, was the best performer with the ball for England. Her three-wicket haul included the big wicket of Rebecca Stokell, as she also helped her side stem the flow of runs, implying constant pressure on the opposition. Towards the end of her spell, she provided a couple of breakthroughs to keep the Irishwomen at her mercy.

Irish captain Gaby Lewis registered an unwanted record of getting dismissed for most ducks for Ireland in WT20Is. The duck in today's clash was her eighth in the format, as she went past Leah Paul's 7 ducks.

Experienced left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone was adjudged the Player of the Match for her exceptional spell of 3-22 in her four overs that kept the Irish side on their toes. She accounted for the crucial wickets of Rebecca Stokell, Arlene Kelly and Cara Murray to finish an outstanding display of spin bowling in Southampton.

The next match in the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 will be Match 9 between Australia and Bangladesh, followed by the tenth encounter between India and the Netherlands. Speaking of Ireland, Lewis & Co. will next be up against New Zealand on Friday. On the other hand, the English side has its next lined up against Scotland on June 20.
