It is highly likely that the Greenfield International Stadium at Karyavattom in Thiruvananthapuram will host a few matches of the upcoming ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025. The 13th instalment of the marquee ODI tournament is scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka from September 30 to November 2 later this year.

Originally, a total of four matches were allocated to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, the venue fell out of favour after a tragic stampede on June 4 around the venue led to the passing away of 11 people alongside 50-plus injured. The disaster took place during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's maiden Indian Premier League title-winning celebrations.

Another instance of the relocation of venues from the Chinnaswamy to the Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar Ground was seen in the ongoing instalment of the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 2025. This was done due to safety concerns of the venue being able to manage crowds. The state-based tournament is currently being held behind closed doors, with only match officials allowed to see the action live.

As per a report from Onmanorama, it is still unclear about how many matches the International Cricket Council of the Chinnaswamy will be awarded to the Greenfield International Stadium. The ground in Trivandrum is the only active international cricketing venue in the region, as the Nehru Stadium in Kochi now hosts football encounters. The last men's ODI game hosted was a match between India and Sri Lanka in January 2023.

This is also the first time in over twelve years that the tournament is returning to the Indian soil, after first hosting it during the 2013 edition. India Women ended up last in Group A, with one win in three matches. The Australian team is the defending champion of the tournament. They beat arch-rivals England Women in the final of the 2022 instalment by 71 runs. Alyssa Healy secured the Player of the Match and Player of the Series accolade due to her stellar performance.

Each team will play seven matches in the group-stage of the upcoming tournament.
