Euphoric scenes erupted at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai after the conclusion of the second semi-final of the Women's World Cup 2025 as Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues broke down in tears of joy and relief after India clinched a record run-chase against Australia. The duo put on 167 off 156 for the third wicket in what turned out to be match-defining in terms of the contest.
The Indian contingent ran out on the field after the match was finished after Amanjot Kaur struck a boundary towards the backward point region. Jemimah dropped to her knees on the pitch with tears in her eyes. Her teary-eyed face was only visible as she removed her helmet a few moments after rising to the ground to soak in the moment.
In the meanwhile, Harmanpreet seemed inconsolable as well. She was consoled by head coach Amol Muzumdar near the dugout. Cameras panned all around her as it was one of the first times Harmanpreet could be spotted weeping her heart out. The rest of the team looked delighted with the outcome of the knockout fixture.
There were plenty of records broken by the Women in Blue on Thursday, October 30. One of them was the colossal 167-run partnership between the captain Harmanpreet and Jemimah, the highest India had posted against Australia in any edition of the Women's World Cup. This stand went past the one between Mithali Raj and Punam Raut at the 2017 installment.
