India finally won the Women’s World Cup for the first time, defeating South Africa Women by 52 runs on Sunday, November 2, at the Dr. D. Y. Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Batting first, India posted a total of 298/7 in 50 overs, with Shafali Verma scoring 87 and Deepti Sharma contributing 58 runs. For South Africa, Ayabonga Khaka was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/58. In reply, South Africa Women were bowled out for 246 in 45.3 overs. Skipper Laura Wolvaardt scored a valiant 101 but could not take her team across the line. Deepti Sharma starred with the ball for India, taking 5/39 in her 9.3 overs.
South African skipper Laura Wolvaardt delivered another brilliant performance in the final but could not guide her team to victory. She scored a magnificent 101 runs off 98 balls, including 11 fours and one six. Wolvaardt continued her exceptional form from the knockout stages, and in the summit clash, she once again showcased her class and determination on the biggest stage.
Indian spinner Deepti Sharma once again displayed her brilliance in the final against South Africa. She delivered a match-winning spell, finishing with figures of 5/39, dismissing Laura Wolvaardt, Sinalo Jafta, Annerie Dercksen, Chloe Tryon, and Nadine de Klerk. With this performance, Deepti ended the Women’s World Cup 2025 with an impressive tally of 22 wickets, further cementing her status as one of the tournament’s standout performers.
Indian opener Shafali Verma, who came in as an emergency replacement for Pratika Rawal, made a stunning impact in just her second innings of the World Cup. In the final, she scored a brilliant 87 runs off 78 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Shafali also contributed with the ball, showing her all-round brilliance by taking two crucial wickets and finishing with figures of 2/36. Her outstanding performance earned her the distinction of becoming the youngest player ever to win the Player of the Match award in a World Cup final.
Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma was named the Player of the Tournament for her outstanding all-round performance in the Women’s World Cup 2025. She scored 215 runs in seven innings and emerged as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 22 wickets in nine matches at an impressive average of 20.40. Deepti’s consistent contributions with both bat and ball played a pivotal role in guiding India to their historic first World Cup title.
