In the 10th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 held at Visakhapatnam on October 9, cricket fans witnessed a thrilling contest between India Women and South Africa Women. India, having posted a challenging total of 251 runs, set the stage for an intense run chase. The match turned exciting early on, largely due to a stunning moment of fielding brilliance by India’s young pacer Kranti Goud who bowled and caught out South Africa opener Tazmin Brits for a duck, striking a major blow to the Proteas’ campaign in the tournament.

The highlight of the match till now was undoubtedly Goud’s spectacular caught and bowled dismissal of Brits. On a fullish delivery just outside off stump, Brits attempted to drive but Goud’s sharp reflexes resulted in an unbelievable catch. As Brits smashed the ball directly back at her, Goud instinctively flung out her left mitt and held onto the catch, stunning not only the crowd but also herself. This wicket was significant as Brit was one of South Africa’s most in-form batters and a key player to watch in this World Cup. The dismissal came early at 2.2 overs in the innings when Brits was dismissed without scoring off 3 balls, delivering an early blow to the visitors.

India’s bowling attack, led by Goud, maintained pressure from the outset, delivering disciplined bowling that prevented South Africa from settling. Along with Goud’s pivotal wicket, South Africa lost their second wicket at 5.3 overs when Sune Luus was caught behind for just 5 runs, leaving the Proteas reeling at 19/2. Chasing 252, South Africa found themselves under the pump with the required run rate climbing and wickets falling early. India’s performance with both bat and ball held strong as the match progressed. While the Indian innings had its share of ups and downs with notable contributions from Pratika Rawal (37) and Richa Ghosh (94), the key moment that set the tone in the South African chase was Goud’s breathtaking fielding display, a testament to her rising status as a match-winner in this tournament.

South Africa now face the daunting task of chasing 233 runs in 44.3 overs with only eight wickets remaining at the moment of Goud’s game-changing catch. The required run rate stands at 5.23, significantly higher than the current rate of 3.45, emphasizing the mounting pressure. India’s disciplined bowling, especially in the powerplay overs, has ensured that South Africa has few easy scoring opportunities. The match is poised delicately as the Proteas look for experienced campaigners like Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp to stabilize the innings from here on.
