Women's World Cup 2025, Match 10: Nadine de Klerk's clutch overpowers Richa Ghosh's efforts in riveting thriller

South Africa Women won the Match 10 of the Women's World Cup 2025 against India Women by three wickets and seven balls to spare at the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, October 9. The South Africans extended their winning streak against India in the 50-over World Cup to 3-0 with this win.

After being put into bat, India got off to quite a decent start inside their powerplay. They added 55 to the score inside 10 overs. Nonkululeko Mlaba picked up a couple of wickets in the form of Smriti Mandhana (23 off 32) and Harleen Deol (13 off 23). Pratika Rawal too departed for 37 after perishing to a loopy delivery from Tumi Sekhukhune. Chloe Tryon dismissed Jemimah Rodrigues for her second duck in three games.

India were five down with 100 on the board when Deepti Sharma was strangled down leg in the subsequent over to place India in further trouble. It was all about Richa Ghosh from that point. She played amazingly well for her 77-ball 94-run knock. Tryon was the pick of the bowlers, picking three wickets while conceding only 32 runs in her 10-over quota. Richa's blazing knock comprised 11 fours and four sixes.

The visitors' start was comparatively more subdued than their opposition. Two of their highest scorers from South Africa's previous game had been dismissed. After Anneke Bosch (1 off 2) was dismissed, Sinalo Jafta stayed at the crease for a brief bit to support skipper Laura Wolvaardt. However, Jafta was trapped in front by hometown hero Shree Charani to leave the Proteas five down.

A couple of 60-run stands of Tryon with skipper Wolvaardt (70 off 111) and then with Nadine de Klerk brought South Africa back into the contest. The Proteas vice-captain fell short of her half-century by a run. However, her side still had a job to do with 41 required in 24. De Klerk not only registered her highest ODI score (84* off 54), but also effected their first win against India after five consecutive defeats in ODIs.

With this, the Women in Blue registered their first loss of the home tournament, whereas, the South African side managed to bag their second-consecutive win. India, however, are still a position ahead of the South Africans on the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 Points Table, owing to a superior net run-rate (NRR).
