Women's World Cup 2025: Nashra Sandhu's freak hit-wicket dismissal against Bangladesh

Nashra Sandhu was dismissed in bizarre fashion during Match 3 of the Women's World Cup 2025 between Pakistan Women and Bangladesh Women at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday, October 2. Sandhu joined Misbah-ul-Haq (against Ireland in 2015 World Cup) and Imam-ul-Haq (against Bangladesh in 2019 World Cup) as the third Pakistani cricketer to get dismissed hit-wicket in a World Cup fixture.

The unfortunate yet comical incident took place on the second ball of the 35th over of the first innings. Sandhu looked to jab a full length delivery from Shorna Akter but then withdrew her bat at the last moment. However, when her willow went up after the late leave, she ended up hitting the stumps. Sandhu walked back disappointed as the ninth Pakistan wicket had fallen with only 115 on the board.

Speaking of how the game panned out, Pakistan women were bowled out for 129 in 38.3 overs, with only Rameen Shamim (23 off 39) and Fatima Sana (22 off 33) managing to get past the 20-run mark. Omaima Sohail and Sidra Amin departed for golden ducks in the first over itself. Shorna registered figures of 3/5 in 3.3 overs while Rabeya Khan conceded only 13 runs in her seven overs with one wicket to her name.

Bangladesh did not have much difficulty in chasing down the target as they reacheid there in 31.1 overs with seven wickets to spare. Rubya Haider struck a fine unbeaten half-century while all 24 of Sobhana Mostary's runs came through boundaries. The two remained unbeaten as Bangladesh kicked off their campaign with an important win over their Asian rivals.

Pakistan will next face India in the tournament, with the eagerly-anticipated contest scheduled for Sunday, October 5 at R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Pakistan will aim on rectifying their shortcomings during the few days' time.
