Smriti Mandhana has secured a fresh record to her name by becoming the highest run-scorer for India in a single edition of the Women's World Cup. Smriti has enjoyed a memorable Women's World Cup 2025 with the bat, registering 434 runs in nine matches at an average and strike rate of 54.25 and 99.08.
The left-handed batter overtook former Indian skipper Mithali Raj's tally of 409 runs (in the 2017 installment) with a boundary in the seventh over of the summit clash at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
Most runs by an Indian in a single Women's World Cup edition:
Smriti was all set to register her fifty before she was caught-behind for 45 off 58 off the bowling of Chloe Tryon. The left-handed batter was the first wicket to fall for India going back to the pavilion in the 18th over of the innings. Her knock comprised eight fours.
The southpaw did not have the most pleasant of starts to her Women's World Cup 2025 campaign, as she could score only 54 runs in the first three games combined. The turnaround arrived in the subsequent three fixtures, against Australia, England and New Zealand, as Smriti managed 80, 88 and 109, respectively.

Coming to the ongoing final, it had been delayed for two hours due to constant rainfall. The ground staff was able to dry up the outfield in time so that no overs were deducted.
Meanwhile, South Africa and India finished third and fourth during the league phase, respectively. They defeated England and Australia in the semi-final to get to the final, respectively. Both India and South Africa have not won the Women's World Cup so far.
