Would Babar Azam have been a bigger star in IPL than PSL?

When it comes to franchise cricket, the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are two of the most prominent yet contrasting tournaments in the world. While the IPL stands out for its massive financial scale, global player pool, and enormous viewership, the PSL has carved a strong identity of its own, celebrated for its competitive edge and local talent. Both leagues enjoy passionate fan bases that eagerly watch their favourite cricketers perform under pressure.
Discussions comparing the two leagues often spark curiosity, especially about how certain players might have fared if they featured in the other competition. One name that frequently enters this conversation is Babar Azam, Pakistan’s star batter and former captain, widely regarded as one of the most technically sound and consistent players of his generation.
Babar has represented Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, and Peshawar Zalmi, featuring in over 100 matches and maintaining an impressive average of 44.61, along with two centuries. His textbook stroke play and remarkable consistency have made him one of the league’s standout performers. Even after losing the national captaincy, Babar continues to focus on rediscovering peak form and contributing significantly to Pakistan’s success.
However, had Babar been part of the IPL, his profile could have reached unprecedented global heights. The Indian league commands an enormous international audience, extensive media coverage, and a platform that turns players into household names worldwide. Sharing the stage with icons like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni would have not only elevated Babar’s fame but also enriched the spectacle for cricket fans across both nations.
However, due to long-standing political tensions between India and Pakistan, players from either side have been unable to participate in each other’s leagues. As a result, fans have missed the opportunity to witness some dream matchups. If Babar had played in the IPL, his market value, brand, and fame would undoubtedly have reached far greater heights than they are today.
