Mumbai Indians Women have been dealt an injury blow, as their young wicketkeeper-batter Gunalan Kamalini has been ruled out for the remainder of the Women's Premier League (WPL) season 2026. Kamalini faced an injury, the details of which remain unknown, though. The injury has unfortunately resulted in an ouster for her. She had represented MI in five games this season before being ruled out.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai-based franchise has named a replacement for Kamalini in young Vaishnavi Sharma. Vaishnavi, who made her debut in late 2025, but went unsold in the WPL auction ahead of the 2026 season, has now been roped in by the two-time champions, as they seek to qualify for their second-straight edition.
"Vaishnavi Sharma will join MI for INR 30 Lakh. The left-arm spinner, who was a member of India’s triumphant ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup squad of 2025, has played 5 T20Is for India, scalping 5 wickets from the same," WPL said in an official media statement on Tuesday, January 20.
