The Navi Mumbai leg of the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 will be witnessing its penultimate evening, as Gujarat Giants Women (GG W) take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB W) on Friday, January 16 at in the Match No. 9 the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy.
Gujarat Giants have been in scintillating form in WPL 2026, unlike their previous three seasons in the cash-rich tournament. They started with back-to-back wins to bag early advantage with four points, but lost a close match to Mumbai Indians Women. As they look to play their last game in Navi Mumbai, the Giants will be hoping to say goodbye to the city with yet another win.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women, on the other hand, have played like a true unit in both their matches thus far. They first beat the defending champions in the tournament opener, and followed it up with a brilliant win against the UP Warriorz. The Smriti Mandhana-led side will be looking to make it three in a row on Friday evening.
The surface at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai has witnessed some high-scoring thrillers in this WPL season, and the batters have also enjoyed full value for their shots owing to the shorter boundary dimensions and the lightning-quick outfield. Chasing may not be a difficult ask at the venue, since the dew is likely to play a part in the match. Batters will be seen dominating throughout this encounter.
Beth Mooney (wicketkeeper), Sophie Devine, Ashleigh Gardner (captain), Georgia Wareham, Bharti Fulmali, Ayushi Soni, Kanika Ahuja, Kashvee Gautam, Tanuja Kanwar, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Renuka Singh Thakur
Grace Harris, Smriti Mandhana (captain), Dayalan Hemalatha, Gautami Naik, Richa Ghosh (wicketkeeper), Radha Yadav, Nadine de Klerk, Arundhati Reddy, Shreyanka Patil, Linsey Smith, Lauren Bell
Star batter Grace Harris could not get going after a start in the opening match of the season, but returned against the UP-based franchise with an impressive 85 and was adjudged the Player of the Match as well. The Australian opening batter will be looking to use her skills and technique to good effect in the upcoming match.
Sophie Devine is known more for her prowess with the bat, but the ongoing WPL season has been an impressive stint with the ball for the New Zealand all-rounder. She has picked up five wickets in the season thus far. Her bowling brilliance was on display against Delhi Capitals Women, where she defended seven runs in the last-ball thriller.
