The new season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) got underway with defending champions Mumbai Indians Women (MI W) taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women (RCB W) in the opening match on Friday, January 9, and the excitement levels were sky-high. Ahead of the much-anticipated clash, England pacer Lauren Bell shared some interesting insights, revealing a few behind-the-scenes details from the RCB camp.
After lifting the WPL title in 2024, RCB endured a forgettable campaign in 2025 and entered this season determined to script a strong comeback. The franchise assembled a formidable squad during the mega auction and roped in Bell as one of their key additions. During a recent interaction, Bell was asked about the much-talked-about ‘coffee club’ within the RCB camp, and her response left fans pleasantly surprised.
“Yes, we do our own coffee. We went to a cafe today, and Georgia Voll backed herself to be a brewer; they very kindly let her make her own coffee. Yeah, we have got a pretty good set-up,” Bell said.
Lanning 'excited to lead' as new era kicks off at UPW
The young English pacer began her WPL journey with the UP Warriorz during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. After opting out of the previous edition, she returned to the tournament this year, but with a new franchise in the form of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. When asked about her experience with the new setup, her response immediately caught everyone’s attention.
“It’s definitely been different. Different franchise, and obviously, RCB is pretty massive. It’s been a crazy few days since I landed…trying to meet everyone and learn names and learn everything. It’s been really fun, and I’m just excited for the first game tonight,” said Bell.
After Bell’s inclusion, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s bowling attack has received a significant boost. Lining up alongside Linsey Smith, Shreyanka Patil, Radha Yadav, and other quality strike bowlers, Bell adds a lethal edge that can trouble any opposition. With such a well-rounded and potent bowling unit at their disposal, RCB can realistically set their sights on winning a second WPL title this season.
Bell made an immediate impact in her debut match for RCB against the defending champions, delivering an impressive spell of 1/14 in her four overs, which included a maiden. She also claimed the precious wicket of Amelia Kerr.
