Australia crushed England in the second Test of the Ashes 2025-26 in Brisbane to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the five-match series. The hosts sealed an eight-wicket win on December 7, further extending their dominance in pink-ball encounters.

The day-night Test saw England begin strongly, with Joe Root finally ending his century drought in Australia. The former England captain played a magnificent knock of 138* off 206 balls, guiding his side to a competitive first-innings total. Zak Crawley also contributed a fluent 76 at the top. For Australia, Mitchell Starc was the standout performer, claiming 6 for 75 to keep the visitors from posting a much bigger score.

Australia responded impressively, piling up 511 in their first innings. In the other concluded Test match between New Zealand and West Indies which ended in a hard-fought draw. New Zealand posted 231 in their first innings, with Kane Williamson scoring 50, while West Indies were bowled out for 167, thanks to a fifer from Jacob Duffy.

New Zealand then amassed 466 in the second innings, driven by Tom Latham’s 145 and Rachin Ravindra’s commanding 176. West Indies showed tremendous resolve on the final day, finishing on 457, led by Shai Hope’s 140 and Justin Greaves’ unbeaten 202. With the draw, both teams opened their accounts in the WTC 2025-27 points table. Australia remains firmly on top, while England sits in sixth place.
