Bangladesh's win in the first Test of the ongoing two-match series against Pakistan has made a massive shuffle to the existing World Test Championship 2025-27 points table, with the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side climbing to the sixth spot on the table, while the Shan Masood-led unit has slipped to the seventh position.
Bangladesh won by a whopping 104-run margin, guided by skipper Shanto who made a scintillating century in the first innings and a brilliant 87 in the second. Courtesy of batting heroics on a friendly surface at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka, Bangladesh gave a 267-run target for the Pakistani side, as the tourists were bundled out for just 163 on the final day to mark a historic win for the hosts.
This also marked Bangladesh's first win in the ongoing WTC cycle, with them facing a defeat and a drawn game against Sri Lanka during their campaign-opening tour.
Speaking of the table-toppers, 2023 champions Australia have maintained the first spot after their emphatic run in the Ashes over England, while also completing a 3-0 whitewash against the West Indies. New Zealand are a close second with a points' percentage of 77.78 after a 2-0 series win against the Caribbean side. Reigning champions South Africa are third after winning three out of their four matches in Pakistan and India during late 2025 tours.
India, on the other hand, are fifth, as their campaign started with a 2-2 draw with England, followed by a clean sweep of the West Indies at home. However, the Indians faltered badly against the Black Caps and Proteas at home, facing five consecutive losses to have their campaign in shambles. Their next Test assignment in the WTC cycle is against the Australians at home for the 2027 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
