WTC 2025-27 Points Table [UPDATED]: Bangladesh strengthen fourth spot after historic win over Australia

Bangladesh produced one of the biggest upsets of the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle as they defeated Australia by five wickets in the first Test at Darwin. The historic victory not only gave Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side a 1-0 lead in the two-match series but also strengthened their position in the updated WTC standings.

Playing a Test in Australia for the first time in 23 years, Bangladesh delivered an impressive all-round performance to secure their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil. Chasing only 57 runs in the fourth innings, the visitors lost just one wicket to complete a memorable victory and become only the third Asian team, after India and Pakistan, to win a Test in Australia.

Bangladesh entered the contest as underdogs but produced a disciplined performance against an Australian side that had won 18 of their previous 23 Tests. Hasan Mahmud played a starring role with the ball, claiming six wickets in the first innings and three more in the second to finish with nine wickets in the match.

Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz also made crucial contributions with centuries as Bangladesh established a strong position before their bowlers completed the job. Australia were unable to chase down the advantage created by the hosts’ batters and were eventually bowled out, leaving Bangladesh with a modest target of 57. The visitors completed the chase with five wickets remaining, securing their first Test victory against Australia since their famous win in Mirpur in 2017. The result also handed Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

The historic victory has significantly improved Bangladesh’s position in the WTC 2025-27 points table. Having entered the match with a PCT of 58.33, Bangladesh have now climbed to 66.67 after recording their third victory in five matches. Australia, despite suffering their second defeat of the cycle, remain at the top of the standings. Their points percentage has dropped from 87.50 to 77.78 following the result, but they continue to hold a narrow advantage over second-placed South Africa.

South Africa remain second with a PCT of 75.00, while New Zealand occupy third place with 72.22. India are currently fifth with 48.15, followed by Sri Lanka in sixth. England, Pakistan and West Indies complete the bottom three positions, with England currently seventh on 24.36, Pakistan eighth on 22.22 and West Indies ninth on 20.83.
