Yashasvi Jaiswal falls for two-ball duck against Sri Lanka Cricket XI in Colombo warm-up

Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a two-ball duck on Day two of the three-day practice fixture between India and Sri Lanka Cricket XI at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo on August 8, 2026. He was caught at gully off the second delivery he faced, with left-arm pacer Vishwa Fernando taking the wicket.

Jaiswal walked out to open alongside KL Rahul after the home side closed their first innings on 363 for eight. His stay at the crease lasted just two deliveries before Fernando found the edge and the fielder at gully completed the catch, leaving India's preparations for the Test series without a meaningful contribution from their first-choice opener.

The two-match Test series begins on August 15 at Galle, with the second fixture in Colombo from August 23. The Nondescripts ground match was India's primary warm-up opportunity ahead of those two Tests.

Fernando's dismissal adds to a growing record of Jaiswal being troubled by left-arm pace bowling in Test cricket. He has been dismissed nine times by bowlers of that type across his Test career, and three of those wickets fell within his last four World Test Championship innings against South Africa at home last year.

Marco Jansen, Mitchell Starc and Nandre Burger have each removed Jaiswal three times in Test cricket, underlining how consistently opposition teams have targeted this channel. The catch at gully on Saturday fits a familiar pattern, as Jaiswal has been dismissed seven times playing the cut shot since his Test debut, even though that stroke has also brought him close to 400 runs in the format.

Before this tour, Jaiswal's most recent competitive Test innings came in the one-off match against Afghanistan that fell outside the World Test Championship cycle, where he scored 24 runs.

It will be interesting to see if India get to bat a second time in the warm-up tie and Jaiswal has the chance to gain some momentum ahead of the Test series.
