You've played here more than us' - Mitchell Starc tells Healy after Bangladesh demolition
Mitchell Starc produced a devastating bowling display in the first session of the second Test against Bangladesh at Mackay on August 22, 2026. The Australian quick claimed six wickets for 12 runs from 10 overs, dismantling the Bangladesh batting lineup in a performance that will be remembered as one of the standout spells of the series. Bangladesh were bowled out for 64 runs in 34 overs, marking the fourth-lowest total in the nation's Test history.
Starc struck with the very first delivery of the match, having Shadman Islam caught at gully, and continued his onslaught throughout the session. He reached a five-wicket haul from just 22 balls and finished proceedings by removing Shoriful, caught behind. The haul lifted Starc's career tally to 440 Test wickets, taking him past Dale Steyn's mark of 439 and into outright 10th place among the highest wicket-takers in Test cricket.
"Yeah, who would have thought they'd stitch this one up? I paid for dinner last night. Does that mean it's now your turn?" Healy said on Fox Cricket.
"You're paid the bigger bucks than I am," Starc replied.
Starc acknowledged Healy's familiarity with the venue, where she had previously played international cricket for Australia. He explained the conditions and his approach to the morning session, noting that local Queensland players had drawn comparisons to the Gabba.
"You said it before, you've played here more than the rest of us, but, yeah, I mean, we clearly weren't at our best last week. To get first use of that wicket, a lot of the Queenslanders here have said it's a lot like the Gabba. So, yeah, to make first use of that in the first session, you can't be too unhappy. Six in the first session, can't beat that. Obviously a little bit of anger. It's worked well so far, hopefully we can keep it up," Starc added.
Australia's bowling attack proved overwhelming on the day. Pat Cummins returned figures of 3 for 25, while Josh Hazlewood claimed the remaining wicket. Australia limped to 165 for eight at stumps but held a 101-run lead after the first innings.
The performance came after Bangladesh had won the first Test in Darwin by nine wickets, making the response at Mackay a crucial moment in the series.
