Zimbabwe name T20I squad for Bangladesh series, Newman Nyamhuri earns maiden call-up
Zimbabwe have announced a 15-member squad for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, with Sikandar Raza set to lead the side. Newman Nyamhuri and Milton Shumba have earned call-ups, while the rest of the squad remains largely unchanged from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, where Zimbabwe reached the Super Eight stage.
Ben Curran has retained his place after joining the World Cup squad as an injury replacement for Brendan Taylor. Meanwhile, Nyamhuri is in line to make his T20I debut during the series. Graeme Cremer has been ruled out with a left-arm fracture, while Brendan Taylor and Tony Munyonga are the other omissions from the World Cup squad.
Nyamhuri made his international debut in 2024 and has impressed in recent outings. The 20-year-old claimed a match haul of six wickets in Zimbabwe's victory over Bangladesh in the one-off Test before following it up with figures of 2 for 22 and a valuable 33 off 51 balls in the first ODI, helping Zimbabwe register a surprise win.
Shumba returns to the T20I side for the first time since 2022. He was the leading run-scorer in Zimbabwe's domestic T20 competition earlier this year, amassing 223 runs in eight matches.
Zimbabwe head into the T20I series on the back of a memorable T20 World Cup campaign, having topped their first-round group unbeaten before recording famous victories over Australia and Sri Lanka en route to the Super Eight.
"The T20 World Cup showed what this group is capable of, so continuity was an important consideration for us. We wanted to keep together the core of a squad that reached the Super Eight while also creating room for players who have earned their opportunities. This series gives the team another opportunity to keep growing as we continue building towards the major international tournaments ahead,” said convenor of selectors David Mutendera as quoted by Cricinfo.
The three-match T20I series will conclude Bangladesh's white-ball tour of Zimbabwe following the ongoing ODI series in Harare. All three T20Is will be played at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on July 15, 17 and 19.
Sikandar Raza (capt), Brian Bennett, Ryan Burl, Ben Curran, Brad Evans, Clive Madande, Tinotenda Maposa, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Tashinga Musekiwa, Blessing Muzarabani, Dion Myers, Richard Ngarava, Newman Nyamhuri, Milton Shumba
