Zimbabwe (ZIM) and Sri Lanka (SL) are all set to lock horns in the second T20I of the three-game T20I series, at the Harare Sports Club in Harare, on Saturday, September 06.
The home team will be bitterly disappointed with their defeat in the first T20I after they managed to get themselves into a great position at one point. Zimbabwe, after being asked to bat first, lost quick wickets; however, opener Brian Bennett held one end till the end, playing a sensational knock of 81 off 57. His innings, along with contributions from the middle-order, took the team to 175/7 in their 20 overs.
In reply, Sri Lankan openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis got their team off to a flying start, adding 96 runs inside the first 10 overs. However, after losing a few quick wickets, Kamindu Mendis hammered a quickfire 16 ball-41, taking the team over the line with four wickets and five balls to spare.
The surface at Harare Sports Club offers a balanced contest between bat and ball. While fast bowlers are likely to find some assistance in the early overs, especially with the new ball, spinners tend to come into play as the match progresses. Despite the support for bowlers, batters have generally found it easy to score once they settle in.
Brian Bennett, Tadiwanashe Marumani(w), Sean Williams, Sikandar Raza(c), Ryan Burl, Tony Munyonga, Tashinga Musekiwa, Brad Evans, Tinotenda Maposa, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani
Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis(w), Kusal Perera, Nuwanidu Fernando, Charith Asalanka(c), Kamindu Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Dushan Hemantha, Dushmantha Chameera, Maheesh Theekshana, Nuwan Thushara
Sri Lanka's opening batter Pathum Nissanka will look to continue his splendid form against Zimbabwe in the ongoing T20Is. In the opening game, the right-handed batter played a brilliant knock of 55 off 32 balls, lacing his innings with four boundaries and two sixes. His performance will be crucial as the visitors will hope to seal the series with yet another win.
Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera could be the bowler to watch out for in the upcoming clash against Zimbabwe. The speedster had a spending day with the ball in hand in the first T20I when he picked up three wickets in his four overs. Chameera will look to pick up more wickets in the 2nd T20I.
