Punjab and India team’s dynamic left-arm batter Abhishek Sharma took a break from the cricketing action to enjoy the Lohri and Makar Sankranti festivities with the popular Punjabi singer AP Dhillon in Chandigarh on Wednesday, January 14, ahead of the five-match T20I series against New Zealand.

The pair was spotted flying kites, an integral ritual of the festival, and the musician-cricketer duo was also accompanied by friends and family, apart from the singer. The No. 1-ranked T20I batter in the world later shared the glimpses of the celebrations on social media, thanking the singer.

"Lohri feels like home. Wishing everyone a very Happy Lohri. Shoutout to AP for coming and making it even more special," he wrote.

Notably, the attacking India batter has been spending a lot of time playing in the domestic circuit amid a break from international action, as he plays only T20Is for the Men in Blue. He captained Punjab in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, taking them to the quarter-finals. The ace batter scored 86 runs while taking three wickets for Punjab.

At the international level, Abhishek has already made his place in the record books. Since his T20I debut in 2024, he has registered multiple big scores and owns India’s highest individual T20I score, 135 off 54 balls against England. That innings helped him rise to the top of the ICC T20I batting rankings with 931 points, a historic feat that underlines his impact in the shortest format. The left-hander’s next T20I assignment will be a five-match series against New Zealand, scheduled to start from January 21, at Nagpur. With the T20 World Cup 2026 approaching, it will be crucial for the left-handed opener to keep up to his form and help India defend their title. The Amritsar-born will be backing himself to live up to the expectations of the Indian team and millions of fans.
