Afghanistan will tour Zimbabwe for a solitary Test and three T20Is in October later this year. The two teams were originally supposed to play two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is as per the Future Tours Programme. Afghanistan had last played Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe across December 2024 and January 2025.
All four matches will be played at the Harare Sports Club. It will be the first time that the venue will host a red-ball game in four years. All nine of Zimbabwe's home Tests have been played at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, with the hosts losing all of them.
The last time Zimbabwe hosted Afghanistan across 2024/25, they lost the multi-format series. The three-match T20I series was lost 1-2. Afghanistan won two matches in the 50-over leg, with the first one being washed out. The two Tests were drawn and won by Afghanistan, respectively.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has opted to give increased weightage to T20Is, as per ESPNcricinfo. Zimbabwe may need the matches to get ready for the T20 World Cup 2026. They are in the semi-final of the ongoing Africa Regional Qualifier. If they beat Kenya, they will qualify for the T20 World Cup which will be held in India and Sri Lanka next year. Zimbabwe missed out on the 2024 T20 World Cup due to a loss to Uganda in the qualifiers.
Zimbabwe to host UAE for six white-ball games in Sept-Oct
In case Zimbabwe book their spot at the mega event which will take place next year, ZC will seek additional fixtures between November this year and April next year. The Chevrons may look to square off against a team like Namibia (also in the semi-finals of the T20 qualifier) and it is also being reported that teams like the Netherlands and Nepal also might be on the radar. The Zimbabwean lost five T20Is on the bounce earlier in 2025. Now, they have now emerged victorious in six of their last nine fixtures.
