Afghanistan lock horns with Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I of the three-match series at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on Friday, October 03.. The Bangladesh team won the first T20I of the series and leads 1-0.
The visitors won the opening clash by four wickets, but not without surviving a collapse triggered by Rashid Khan. Batting first, Afghanistan posted 151/9, with contributions from Rahmanullah Gurbaz (40), Mohammad Nabi (38 off 25), and a late cameo from Sharafuddin Ashraf. Bangladesh’s bowlers, including Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib, picked two wickets each.
Chasing 152, Bangladesh were in a comfortable position as openers Tanzid Hasan (51) and Parvez Hossain Emon (54) added 109 for the first wicket. But from 109/0, Rashid bagged four wickets in quick succession, threatening to turn the contest around. Noor Ahmad added another wicket, giving the home team a solid chance to grab a win. However, Nurul Hasan (23* off 13) and Rishad Hossain (14* off 9) held their nerve, finishing the chase with eight balls to spare.
The pitch at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium has traditionally favoured batters, with conditions generally improving as the game progresses. The smaller boundary dimensions mean that batters can clear the rope with relatively fewer efforts and timing. However, the surface has often shown signs of being a double-sided support, which could bring spinners into play during the middle overs and make scoring a challenge.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz(w), Sediqullah Atal, Ibrahim Zadran, Darwish Rasooli, Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Nabi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Rashid Khan(c), Noor Ahmad, Fareed Ahmad Malik
Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Parvez Hossain Emon, Saif Hassan, Jaker Ali(w/c), Nurul Hasan, Shamim Hossain, Rishad Hossain, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Taskin Ahmed, Nasum Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman
The Bangladesh opener Parvez Hossain Emon looked in great nick in the first encounter and could be the best batter in the upcoming game. The left-handed batter smashed 54 runs off 37 deliveries, lacing his innings with four boundaries and three sixes. His opening stand with Tanzid Hasan Tamim played a huge role in Bangladesh's win.
Star Afghan skipper Rashid Khan will once again let his bowling do all the talking in the upcoming contest. The leggie, in the opening game, bagged a four-wicket haul and almost took the game away from the Bengal Tigers. While Afghanistan ended on the losing end, the 27-year-old will once again look to use the conditions well and create challenges for the opposition batters.
