Alyssa Healy receives lap of honour at SCG after announcing her retirement

Legendary Australian captain Alyssa Healy received a fitting farewell at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) as she completed a lap of honour during the Sydney Smash clash between Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder in the ongoing BBL 2025-26. The tribute came just days after Healy officially announced her retirement from all forms of cricket, bringing the curtain down on one of the most celebrated careers in women’s cricket.

The lap of honour took place during a Big Bash League fixture at the SCG, where Healy was recognised for her outstanding contribution to the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). Fans gave her a standing ovation as the 35-year-old was driven around the boundary aboard the SCG groundsmen’s buggy.

Meanwhile, Healy announced her retirement on January 13 through the Willow Talk podcast, confirming that the upcoming home series against India in February-March would record her final assignment in Australia colours. She cited mental fatigue and recurring injuries as reasons behind her decision.

On the other hand, across her WBBL career, she featured in 129 matches, scoring 3,125 runs at an average of 25.82 and a strike rate of 133.71. Her tally includes five centuries and 15 half-centuries, with a highest score of 112 not out. Behind the stumps, she claimed 60 catches and effected 45 stumpings.

Furthermore, Healy will skip the T20Is against India to allow Australia to plan for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. However, she will feature in the ODI series before bringing her career to an end with the one-off Test at the WACA from March 6 to 9. An eight-time World Cup winner, Healy lifted six T20 World Cups and two ODI World Cups.
