Angkrish Raghuvanshi named in Mumbai squad after recovering from finger injury

Mumbai have included Kolkata Knight Riders wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi in their squad for the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah Memorial Trophy 2026-27, marking his return to competitive cricket following a finger injury that required surgery and sidelined him since IPL 2026.

The 22-year-old fractured a finger on his left hand and subsequently underwent an operation in London, which also forced him to miss the T20 Mumbai League in June.

"Angkrish is fit now. Ayush’s injury will take some more time to heal," Mumbai's chief selector Rajesh Pawar was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

Raghuvanshi's inclusion is a significant boost for Mumbai's batting resources as they prepare for the tournament, with the selectors now able to call on one of domestic cricket's more consistent young run-scorers after his extended absence.

Before the finger fracture cut short his season, Raghuvanshi was in commanding form for Kolkata Knight Riders throughout IPL 2026. He finished as KKR's leading run-scorer in the tournament, compiling 422 runs across 13 matches. That return included five half-centuries from 12 innings, a sequence that underlined his value at the top of the order.

The tally was also notable for a broader reason: it was the second consecutive IPL season in which Raghuvanshi surpassed 300 runs for KKR, demonstrating a level of consistency that few batters his age have managed in the competition. His return to Mumbai's domestic setup will allow him to rebuild match rhythm ahead of what could be a busy international calendar.

While Raghuvanshi has been cleared to play, his Mumbai teammate Ayush Mhatre remains unavailable. Mhatre sustained a hamstring injury during IPL 2026 while turning out for Chennai Super Kings and has not yet completed his rehabilitation programme. He is currently working through his recovery at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, with chief selector Pawar indicating that more time is needed before the young batter can be considered for selection.

Mhatre's absence means Mumbai will rely on Raghuvanshi and the other named batters to carry the top-order workload in the Thimmappiah Trophy, with no confirmed return date available for the hamstring injury at this stage.
