India once again outclassed Pakistan by six wickets in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, September 21. Chasing 172, India batted brilliantly, thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s fifty and a partnership with Shubman Gill to seal the game with seven balls to spare.
Indian skipper Suryakumar called it correctly at the toss and elected to bowl first. Openers Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan started dently, with Farhan holding the innings together. After Fakhar’s early dismissal, Farhan and Saim Ayub stitched a 72-run stand for the second wicket, with Farhan bringing up his half-century off just 34 balls.
The middle overs saw a slump, including a period of 39 deliveries without a boundary. India’s spinners bounced back, thanks to Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav, who kept things tight. Notably, Shivam Dube delivered with the ball, removing the set batters Farhan (58) and Ayub (21). The Men in Green managed just 80 runs in the final 10 overs, eventually finishing on 171/5. Captain Salman Agha’s unbeaten 17 and Faheem Ashraf’s 20 off 8 balls gave them a respectable finish.
In the chase, Abhishek Sharma, opening alongside Shubman Gill, came out all guns blazing. The left-hander smashed 74 off 39 balls with six fours and five sixes, reaching his fifty in just 24 deliveries. Gill complemented him with a 47 off 28 balls. The pair added 105 runs for the first wicket in under 10 overs.
Pakistan briefly pulled things back, as Faheem Ashraf bowled Gill, and Suryakumar Yadav fell for a duck soon after. Abhishek too departed for 74, and Sanju Samson (13) couldn’t kick on. But Tilak Varma, 30 not out off 19 balls, and Hardik Pandya’s support ensured India crossed the line with ease. With nine runs required in the last two overs, Tilak smashed Shaheen Afridi for a six and then flicked him for four to seal victory at 174/4 in 18.5 overs.
