Pakistan survived a batting collapse before their bowlers produced a clinical performance to seal a 41-run win against the UAE in Dubai, booking their spot in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four alongside India from Group A.
Asked to bat first, Pakistan suffered two big blows as Junaid Siddique removed Saim Ayub for his third consecutive duck and also dismissed Sahibzada Farhan cheaply. Fakhar Zaman hammered 50 off 36 balls that included two boundaries and three sixes. He added 61 with skipper Salman Agha (20). Left-arm spinner Simranjeet Singh pushed Pakistan on the back foot with a three-wicket haul, while Siddique finished with brilliant figures of 4 for 18. However, Shaheen Shah Afridi’s late cameo of an unbeaten 29 off just 14 balls pushed the total to 146 for 9.
Chasing 147, UAE started strongly through Alishan Sharafu, but once Shaheen removed him, UAE's innings went downhill. Captain Muhammad Waseem and Rahul Chopra tried to steady things, with Chopra making 35, but Pakistan’s spinners, Abrar Ahmed and Saim Ayub, kept putting pressure. Abrar was outstanding with 2 for 13 from four overs. While the UAE lost their last seven wickets for just 20 runs, collapsing to 105 all out in 17.4 overs. Haris Rauf and Shaheen picked two wickets each, while Salman Agha chipped in with one.
Pakistan opener Saim Ayub’s underwhelming run at the Asia Cup 2025 continued as he fell for his third consecutive duck, this time against the UAE. Going for a short and wide delivery from Junaid Siddique, the southpaw managed a thick edge to Muhammad Rohid at deep third. Earlier, he had registered golden ducks against Oman and India.
