AUS vs IND 2025: 'I expect to be in every team, rest is up to selectors' - Varun Chakravarthy on ODI snub

Indian mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has opened up on his exclusion from India's ODI squad for the upcoming series against Australia. Chakravarthy was one of the star performers in India's title-winning Champions Trophy 2025 run, where he picked up nine wickets in three matches at an economy rate of just 4.53.
He commented about the possibility of selectors having a different viewpoint on his influence as far as the Australian conditions are concerned.
"Brother, I expect to be in every team but it's up to the selectors to think what they are thinking. Maybe, the pitches there (in Australia) offer less chance. If you see in the Champions Trophy also, I was brought in as a replacement for Yashasvi Jaiswal. So, it just depends on the conditions. I can feel anything but what the pitches demand is totally another thing," stated Chakravarthy, as quoted by India Today.
Chakravarthy also commented on his conversations with head coach Gautam Gambhir around bowling longer spells and enhancing his batting skills through playing domestic cricket.
"Basically, the conversations were around bowling longer spells. Because in T20s, you maximum bowl two overs back-to-back. But in ODIs, you have to bowl five to six overs back-to-back, which I did work on and I was able to do it in the Champions Trophy. Nothing much, and definitely, he wants me to bat a little more up the order in the domestic circuit and improve on my batting," he added.
Chakravarthy’s tea cup trophy steals Asia Cup spotlight
India will take part in three ODIs followed by five T20Is on their tour Down Under. Chakravarthy has been selected for the 20-over leg of the series. He was recently an integral component of India's Asia Cup 2025 triumph in the United Arab Emirates.
