The Big Bash League (BBL) returns for its fifteenth edition in 2025-26, as the marquee event is set to get underway on Sunday, December 14 to kick-start the proceedings. Like it has been the case for the past fourteen seasons, eight teams will engage in a fierce cricketing battle to decide on the best T20 team in all of Australia. A total of 44 matches will be played in over a month of an enthralling season of cricketing extravaganza.

Last year, the Hobart Hurricanes ended a 14-year-wait to lift their maiden title in the lucrative tournament. However, when it comes to winning the most times in BBL history, Perth Scorchers clearly edge out others with a record of five titles. The Sydney Sixers follow them closely with three victorious seasons, whereas the Brisbane Heat have won twice. Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers have won once each, while Melbourne Stars remain the only side who is yet to touch the prized silverware.

To mark the commencement of the 2025-26 season, the Perth Scorchers will be hosting the Sydney Sixers in the opening match of the league stage at the Perth Stadium on Sunday. The top four teams on the points table at the end of the 40 league stage games will be making it to the knockouts, with the finale set to be played on January 25. As a result, the teams will want to go all guns blazing and are set to entertain the fans with their blitzkrieg on the field.

BBL 2025-26 will begin on Sunday, December 14, 2025.

The opening match of the tournament will see five-time champions Perth Scorchers cross swords against the three-time winners Sydney Sixers.

A vast majority of the games in the BBL 2025-26 will start at 1:45 PM Indian Standard Time, whereas, few games will be played 8:35 AM, 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:35 PM, and 3:45 PM as well.

The toss will take place 30 minutes before the scheduled start of a match.

Fans will be able to watch the BBL 2025-26 on live television network on the JioStar (Star Sports) Network Channels in India.
