Canada’s clash with Scotland in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 created an unwanted record for the first time in the history of international cricket. The incident saw both Canadian openers dismissed on the first two balls of their innings.
The contest, held at the Maple Leaf North-West Ground in King City, was the 81st fixture of the League 2 cycle. Canada were put into bat after Scotland won the toss. The record was set after the very first delivery, Scotland’s left-arm pacer Brad Currie dismissed opener Ali Nadeem by getting an edge off a good-length delivery straight to Mark Watt at first slip, departing for a duck.
On the second ball, Yuvraj Samra, stationed at the non-striker’s end, was caught short of his crease. Pargat Singh’s drive deflected off Currie’s hand onto the stumps, with Samra too far from the crease as the opener was run out without facing a ball. This saw Canada losing both their openers for zero runs on the first two balls of the innings, the first time such a sequence has ever occurred in international cricket, across formats.

Currie continued to run through the Canadian batting order, finishing his opening spell with three wickets while also playing a role in Samra’s dismissal. Canada was struggling at 18 for 5, staring at the possibility of a sub-50 total. However, wicketkeeper-batter Shreyas Movva's 60, along with Jaskaran Singh’s 32 and Saad Bin Zafar’s 29, pushed the team to a respectable 184 before they were bowled out in 48.1 overs.
In reply, Scotland's George Munsey anchored the chase with an unbeaten 84, while captain Richie Berrington contributed 64. Despite losing a few wickets, Scotland reached the target in 41.5 overs, securing a comprehensive seven-wicket victory with 49 balls to spare.
