The 27th edition of the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards took place in Mumbai on October 7, 2025, bringing together some of the biggest names in world cricket. The annual ceremony, known for celebrating excellence across formats, once again delivered a memorable evening as current stars and legendary figures were recognised for their achievements. From iconic lifetime achievement honours to emerging talent awards, the event showcased the global reach and evolving dynamics of the sport.
Indian cricket fans witnessed a proud moment when veteran batter Rohit Sharma received a special memento for guiding India to victory in the Champions Trophy 2025. His leadership in the tournament captivated fans as India lifted the prestigious trophy after a thrilling final. This was also Rohit’s first public appearance since being relieved of India’s ODI captaincy, a role now handed to rising star Shubman Gill ahead of the upcoming Australia tour.
Adding to the emotional weight of the night, West Indies legend Brian Lara and India’s spin great B.S. Chandrasekhar were both honoured with the CEAT Lifetime Achievement Award. Their unparalleled contributions to cricket have inspired generations. England’s Joe Root claimed the International Cricketer of the Year award for his consistent and match-winning performances across formats in the past year. In T20Is, Sanju Samson was named Batter of the Year after outshining competition from Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, while Varun Chakravarthy earned T20I Bowler of the Year honours.
In the women’s category, Smriti Mandhana was recognised as Women’s Batter of the Year, with Deepti Sharma taking Women’s Bowler of the Year for her remarkable all-round performances in India’s campaign. The Emerging Player of the Year award went to young sensation Angrish Raghuvanshi, seen as one of India’s most promising batting prospects. Other notable winners included Kane Williamson as Men’s ODI Batter of the Year, Matt Henry as ODI Bowler of the Year, and Harry Brook as Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year.
While losing captaincy was a significant change for Rohit, his inclusion in India’s ODI squad for the Australia series remains a talking point. The upcoming series, comprising three ODIs followed by five T20Is, will see him join forces with veteran Virat Kohli, as both focus solely on ODI cricket after retiring from T20Is and Tests. With Australia expected to field a near full-strength lineup, the series promises high-voltage action.
Gill’s leadership will be closely monitored throughout the ODIs, given the challenge of stepping into a role backed by Rohit’s immense experience. India’s selectors have made it clear that the team’s approach ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup will involve fostering young leadership while retaining older stars for key roles. For Rohit, the CEAT memento is a reminder of his captaincy triumphs, even as he embarks on a new chapter purely as a senior batter.
