Fans erupt as Tanzid Hasan scripts history with stunning century on Day 2 of AUS vs BAN Darwin Test

Tanzid Hasan Tamim etched his name into Bangladesh cricket history on Day 2 of the first Test against Australia in Darwin, becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to score a Test century on Australian soil. His composed hundred came at a crucial stage as Bangladesh continued to dominate after bowling Australia out for 198.

Tanzid reached the landmark in 188 balls, completing a memorable maiden Test century with a calm and assured display at the crease. The 25-year-old left-hander showed tremendous patience during the early stages of his innings before gradually shifting gears as Bangladesh moved beyond Australia’s first-innings total.

The milestone was particularly significant given Tanzid’s limited experience at Test level. Playing only his second match in the longest format, the opener handled Australia’s bowling attack with confidence and discipline, refusing to be rushed into playing unnecessary strokes. His century also gave Bangladesh another reason to celebrate after their bowlers had produced an outstanding performance on the opening day.

Tanzid’s historic knock also saw him surpass a previous Bangladesh record in Australia. Before his arrival at the crease, Hannan Sarkar held the record for the highest individual Test score by a Bangladeshi batter in Australia, with 76 runs. Tanzid comfortably moved past that mark before completing his century, adding another layer of significance to an already impressive innings.

The young batter had earlier brought up his maiden Test half-century, providing the foundation for what eventually became a landmark hundred. Rather than taking excessive risks, Tanzid built his innings steadily and appeared increasingly comfortable as his stay at the crease progressed. His performance could prove hugely important for Bangladesh as they look to establish a commanding position in the Test.

Bangladesh’s strong position was built on the back of an exceptional bowling effort from Hasan Mahmud. The pacer tore through Australia’s batting line-up with figures of 6/55, helping dismiss the hosts for just 198. Australia’s star-studded batting order struggled to withstand Bangladesh’s disciplined attack, leaving the visitors with an opportunity to put serious pressure on the home side. Tanzid then ensured that Bangladesh made full use of that advantage with the bat. The opener received valuable support from captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, with the pair focused on extending Bangladesh’s lead and putting Australia under further pressure.
