A dazzling century by Mitchell Marsh lit up the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as the Lucknow Super Giants stormed to a formidable 194 for 1 in just 16.6 overs against Gujarat Titans.
After being asked to bat first, LSG made a solid start with Marsh and Aiden Markram forging a strong opening partnership of 91 runs. Markram played the role of aggressor early, striking 36 off 24 balls before falling to Sai Kishore. However, Marsh, who was initially cautious in the powerplay, shifted gears once he settled, combining elegance with brute power. The innings took a dramatic turn when Nicholas Pooran joined Marsh at the crease.
What followed was a breathtaking display of clean hitting and controlled aggression as Marsh and Pooran stitched together a blistering 100-run stand in just 42 balls. Marsh reached his hundred in the 17th over with a crisp drive through cover, marking his maiden IPL century and LSG’s first of the season. He was dismissed after scoring 117 runs in 64 balls, studded with 10 fours and 8 sixes. Pooran, on the other hand, provided the late-innings thrust with a blistering knock of 56 not out from just 27 deliveries, striking at over 207. Their explosive partnership lifted LSG close to the 200-mark,
The Titans’ bowling attack had no respite against the onslaught unleashed by Marsh and Pooran. What began as a tight, probing effort by the GT pacers in the powerplay quickly spiraled into chaos once Marsh found his timing. The turning point came in the 12th over when Marsh took on Rashid Khan, smashing him for 25 runs in a single over – a rarity against the Afghan leg-spinner who is widely regarded as one of the best in the world. Marsh danced down the track, swept, and pulled with authority, showcasing his full repertoire. Pooran’s arrival only intensified the pressure on GT’s bowlers, as he started striking boundaries almost immediately.
His effortless power through the leg side and fearless approach meant that even good deliveries were being punished. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Arshad Khan had no answers to the LSG duo, with Rashid’s two overs costing 36 runs – among his worst ever in IPL. Pooran, unrelenting in his assault, played a key role in maintaining the momentum and ensuring the Titans never got a chance to regain control. LSG were on track for a total well beyond 230 had the match continued, and even with the overs curtailed to 17, the Titans were handed a massive target.

Mitchell Marsh only had 3 half-centuries in the first 42 IPL matches.
He scored 5 half-century and 1 century in his next 12 inning for LSG which is his BEST ever IPL season.

Mitchell Marsh is still one of the best hitters down the ground. And as he is so tall, he is very good at playing the pull.
